echoing off of concrete

you heard it from upstairs

and came down to inspect

the smoke thick

the rubble mountainous

you stood, blinded

until the air began swirling around you

and light of a new color protruded from the wreckage

your arm timidly moved forward

your feet locked into place

so close to becoming whole

you weren’t sure what would happen

you only understood that this was your chance

a flash

you began rising

and you never ceased

a better place for everyone

somewhere new

let’s go

let’s find those streets without a name

those back alleys covered in overgrowth

let’s find ourselves today

hiding behind moss and mirrors

see those pieces of innocence that we step over instead of pick up

but not today

today we’ll find the places the map forgot

and we’ll find out what makes us smile again
